Design Discipline: Nurturing Creativity through Daily Design

Over the course of the project, spanning from Wednesday, January 4, 2017, to Thursday, April 13, 2017, I curated a collection of 100 posters. Each design was inspired by a single word or short phrase extracted from my daily Gemini horoscope.

This initiative was a response to a prompt by Michael Beirut, and it stands as a testament to the power of discipline, creativity, and the transformative potential embedded in the daily commitment to the creative process. The essence of the Project Aim lies in the fusion of process and creativity, challenging participants to embark on a daily design operation—whether it aligns with personal preferences or not. The core objective is to cultivate a willingness to engage in this repeated design ritual, fostering both a creative boost and a meaningful creative outlet.

The project is governed by two straightforward rules. The first rule dictates that the chosen design operation must be faithfully repeated in some form every single day. The second rule underscores the importance of documenting each iteration meticulously for eventual presentation. In essence, the project serves as a permissive space for unbridled creativity. It beckons participants to delve deep into their reservoirs of creative thinking, relying on ingenuity to unlock a sustained and evolving creative breakthrough.

For my chosen design operation, I committed to crafting a typographic poster design daily, using quotes extracted from my Gemini horoscope. The challenge presented by this undertaking was nothing short of formidable. Remembering to dedicate time to it each day posed a mental hurdle. Balancing the demands of leisure, family, school, and work to carve out free time for this creative pursuit was no small feat. Moreover, the act of crafting visually compelling posters within a tight 30-minute window proved to be both demanding and rewarding.

The commitment to creating a typographic poster design every day for 100 consecutive days demanded unwavering discipline and determination. It became a testament to my ability to navigate the challenges of daily life while consistently producing meaningful and visually captivating work.
